Studio Policies

  • Lessons, Cancellations, Makeups

Private lessons are offered in 30-, 45-, and 60-minute sessions, while group lessons are all 60 minutes.

Our calendar mirrors an academic calendar, with autumn, winter, spring, and summer quarters. The studio is open all-year-round, with the exception of holidays (see studio calendar).

Late cancellations (less than 24-hours notice) and no-shows will not be made up or refunded. Prior notice for missed lessons is always appreciated. If Mary must miss a lesson, a makeup will be offered.

  • Tuition

Tuition payments may be made monthly or quarterly. Chronic late payments may result in termination of lessons.

Withdrawals must be made by the 15th of the month.

  • Practice Makes Perfect

Becoming proficient in music is a wonderful experience, and requires consistent dedication and focused practice. It is generally recommended that students practice five to six times a week.

    Beginners: 20-30 minutes per day

Intermediate and advanced: Approximately 1 hour per day

Keep in mind that each student’s journey is unique. Please discuss with Mary specific practice routine that best supports your individual goals and progress.

Parents are encouraged to maintain a positive and encouraging attitude towards their child’s musicianship, while helping to establish healthy and consistent practicing habits.

  • Instrument Requirements and Materials

Students should have access to an acoustic piano or full-sized keyboard with weighted keys and pedals. Please contact Mary for instrument recommendations if you have questions.

Materials such as sheet music, practice logs, theory and technique books, are available for purchase. Please bring music and workbooks to weekly lessons.
